To accompany the winning students on the Simpson Prize study tours in 2027
History Teachers’ Association of Australia (HTAA) affiliates can apply to be considered for selection as a Simpson Prize Teacher Chaperone. The Simpson Prize Advisory Committee will select 3 applicants to accompany the students on the Simpson Prize study tours, initially to Canberra in early 2027, then to key historical and commemorative site/s overseas, likely to be in April.
The Simpson Prize Teacher Chaperone role is an outstanding professional development opportunity.
Those put forward by the HTAA affiliates will be selected based on:
- having students participate in the The Simpson Prize Competition
- the support of the teacher’s principal
- 2 references which address the applicant’s suitability for a chaperone role in the context of the Simpson Prize study tours (from your current Principal)
- an indication in no more than 300 words why he/she wants to accompany the students on Simpson Prize study tours, including how the applicant will be able to support this program as a Teacher Chaperone
- include any significant experience with Australian and overseas student excursions that may support their application.
This should include:
- excellent interpersonal skills with students
- appropriate level of physical fitness and health
- demonstrated expertise in historical inquiry
- details of how this would enhance their professional learning.
Material to support the application must be attached to the Teacher Chaperone Application Form and forwarded by COB Wednesday 6 November 2026.
The decisions of the HTAA affiliates in nominating teachers and the Simpson Prize Advisory Committee in selecting the 3 teachers for the study tours is final.
